Taking proper care of Oriental
Carpets is essential for prolonging their life. Some of the essential are listed
below:-
-
An Oriental Rug should always
be laid with an under felt to minimize the process of wear and tear. It is
also important to avoid placing heavy furniture on a finely textured piece.
-
When carpets are in use, they
should be regularly cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or a brush. Once a carpet
has become dirty, it should be washed with water and a first rate
soap/shampoo.
-
When not in use carpets should
be rolled rather than folded. Carpets should be stored in a place of
relative humidity not exceeding 70%, otherwise they would suffer from
mildew, other moulds and their colors are likely to fade.
-
All good carpet dealers are in
touch with repair workers who can repair any defect in a carpet.
Vacuuming
Regular vacuuming will help prevent destructive grit action caused by
the build up of dirt and dust. Occasionally, you should also vacuum the
back of the rug to draw out bits of yarn that can otherwise dull the luster of
the carpet. This should be followed by a quick vacuuming of the face of the rug.
Spots and Stains
If attended to immediately, most spots and stains can be removed.
Use a mild soap and water solution (one part liquid soap to four parts water).
Scrub the area in a circular motion with a soft brush. Blot with paper toweling.
Scrub- brush the top in the natural direction of the pile. Finally,
elevate the rug and allow the wet area to dry.
Padding
A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear and slippage.
