Catalog - Oriental Designs
These rugs normally
come from a broad geographical region extending from China in the east to
Turkey in the west and the Caucasus in the north to Pakistan and India in
the south. Although people
from different cultures, countries, racial groups and religious faiths
have remained involved in the production of oriental rugs but the art of
oriental rug making reached its pinnacle under the Safavid Empire of
Central Asia in the 17th century. From
here they reached to Europe via the Silk Route and newly discovered sea
trading routes.
